Her father, Reverend Claude Edwards, is founder and pastor of the church and Donna's love of gospel music, where she heard it, and led to her interests in singing. Donna was in contact with different musical styles at a youthful age. Bernice Edwards, her mother was a lead singer, for the Spiritual Gospel Singers, a well-known group in the Midwest area, and her father was the cousin of the legendary Sam Cooke. Although both parents helped to shape her musical style, her greatest secular influence came from the Motown and jazz her older brothers bought into their home. Her parents remember her at the tender age of two, singing along the words for words with songs on the radio. However, unlike most of us, she was singing in the exact same tune. It was then that her parents began to realize that they had given birth to a bona fide songstress. During high school, Donna formed an all-female group. Called the Suppressions, and from there, her career bloomed. Her first professional experience was her being the lead singer with a group called The Monarchs. Donna, Rene. Was an artist with a great love for God and her family. Music has. Provided the vessel for her to be the best human being she can be, that she could be in every facet of her life.
Donna once wrote. Music was my first love. As a child, I would walk around our yard singing as loudly as I could. My father. Would yell. Quote Girl, shut up. All that noise. End of quote. I would, but only for a few minutes, Donna said inevitably. She would start singing again. As a child, I was a loner. But that was my choice. All I wanted to do was sing and read. We had an. Oh, ugly washing machine in our basement. They had a mean beat. And I would often. Use it as my backup. I loved it. For me, music is like the air I breathe. I need it. I love the way it soothes me. I love the way it can make me feel. Music Is honest and forgiving. It always welcomed me. Back to matter how long you've been away from it. Music is. The sound in the surround. Our daily lives, we just need it to stop and listen. It can make you laugh; it can make you cry, it can make you want to drive around town in your car and make you wish you were driving a convertible. Music can bring you up. And it can bring you down. In music can certainly make you dance. That's what I love. About the great classic.
In standard songs I've selected. They conveyed all of my feelings. And hopefully they will reach you too. Enjoy.
